Devin Jon Foutz, 36, of Phoenix, Ariz., passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was born May 29, 1970, in Farmington, to E J "Jay" and Ruth Marie Marshall Foutz.
Born and raised in Farmington, Devin graduated from Farmington High School, attended New Mexico State University, and Full Sail Center for the Recording Arts in Florida. For several years, Devin worked in Los Angeles, Calif., as a recording/mixdown engineer on numerous best-selling records. Devin was a talented drummer and songwriter, and performed in various bands. When his daughter was born, Devin relocated to Phoenix and expanded his career as a sound engineer in television sports broadcasting, bringing the perfect audio to fans watching NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, boxing, college sports, Olympics, and other events.
Devin's interests included playing the drums, mountain biking, fishing, hunting, traveling and socializing with family and friends all around the country.
Devin was a talented musician, artist, entrepreneur, and proud father. Devin was preceded in death by his father, E J "Jay" Foutz, and his great-nephew, Jarin Hansen.
Devin is survived by his daughter, (his darlin') McKenzie Lynn Kuik-Foutz; his mother, Marie Foutz; his brothers, Garry Foutz, and Brent Foutz and wife, Becky; and his sisters, Pam Hansen and husband, Jack, Jean Marshall and husband, John, Jaynette Foutz, and Raquelle Foutz. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Colter Foutz, Jake Foutz, Jean-Marie Dalton and husband, Mat, Jade Lee and husband, Nate, Jed Foutz, Jeni Finlayson and husband, Mike, Jill Hepner and husband, Doug, Micah Hansen, Heidi Jensen and husband, Casey, Jay D. Hansen and wife, Stephanie, Elder Tyson Hansen, and Marlee Hansen. He is also survived by his great-nieces and nephews, Kamarie Dalton, Tenaya Dalton, Kyler Dalton, Mandi Dalton, Bransen Lee, C. J. Lee, Jerica Finlayson, Jenica Finlayson, Josie Hansen, Addison Hansen, Ashley Jensen, Lauren Jensen and Braxden Hansen. Devin is survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.
Devin possessed charisma and charm like no other. If you had the privilege of meeting Devin once, you never forgot that your paths had crossed. It did not matter to Devin if you were homeless or a famous celebrity, he treated all he met with exuberance. If Devin was your friend, you likely considered him your best friend. "No worries, dude." We will miss you.
Visitation for Devin will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 400 W. Apache St. in Farmington. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Citizen's Bank, 500 W. Broadway in Farmington, for the Devin Jon Foutz fund for McKenzie Kuik-Foutz.
